Art Inspired Decor: A Series Introduction
I absolutely love helping people design and decorate functional, beautiful, supportive spaces in my design work. I specialize in empowering people to find a style that is their own and create a space especially tailored to their lives they are actively living and creating for themselves each day. These spaces enrich and inspire!
I’m also an artist, art lover, and budding art collector!
One of my favorite decor DIY tips is picking an artwork you love and using it as inspiration for a color story for a room.
For years I’ve had ideas for decor, and partially fleshed out room designs pop into my head when I see a particularly fun or beautiful piece of artwork. I’ve fantasized about creating room designs for clients inspired by a single statement piece.
I’ve decided that I want to do more with this inspiration - and share a new series here on my blog: Art Inspired Rooms.
The Concept: Pick one artwork by an artist and design a moodboard for a space that could be replicated by someone! Complete with buyable options.
For example: I’ve started with myself!
For this “room” I decided to start dark and moody: with a dark, complex wall color and grey trim that would beautifully set the tone for a cozy lounge. I pulled color from the artwork in the room and also added an accent color of light green for the vintage inspired lighting. I bounced that green throughout the room in the veining of marble tables. I made sure to utilize playful shapes for the accent pieces in the room and found a buffet table, vases, and a wine holder with waves that mirror the shapes in the artwork. Even the mirror and tables have curved organic shapes that feel playful. The wine glasses are purple! The pink sofa & “chairs” are modular and can be easily re-arranged. They sit low and cozy to the ground which feels childlike and playful. The sconces by the lounge area would have dim lights for lounging without the intensity of an overhead light. There is also a super fun light on the buffet that casts rainbow mood lighting across the room, and would reflect further into the room by the mirror nearby!
How cool would this translate to a sitting room with a beautiful dark fireplace?!
I can totally imagine sitting with my girlfriends over a bottle of wine and loosing track of time chatting until the wee hours of the morning here!
Check out the Pinterest board for details on all the items in this “room” and more!
